of 279 recent r/Etsy posts we sampled were still publicly visible about a day later.

How this is measured

Estimate. We sample recent public posts and check again about 18 hours later to count how many are still publicly visible. Posts removed at the moment of submission never become publicly visible at all, so the true removal rate is at least this high. Last sampled Sep 5, 2026.

r/Etsy rules: what actually gets removed

Each rule below is paired with the way it is most likely enforced. Where the rules state a number, we quote it. Where they do not, we say so instead of guessing.

  1. 1.No Shameless Plugs, Promotional Content, or Referral Links

    Enforced automatically

We do not allow promotion of any kind here. This includes shops, listings, and seller tools / services - whether directly linked or not. All of this must go in the weekly stickied promotional post. Shop links as user flair are acceptable. Please do not post referral links for Etsy or another service. If someone requests a code for free listings PM them the link. If you offer a service for Etsy sellers, post your info in the weekly Share Your Stuff thread.

  2. 2.Feedback Friday: No Requests for Shop Feedback / Critiques Except on Fridays

    Enforcement varies

Shop critique requests and requests for feedback are allowed on FRIDAYS ONLY. Please follow the guideline post linked here in order to post a shop feedback request. 3. 3.READ THE FAQ FIRST! No Low Effort Content / Misinformation

    Removed by moderators

Please read the stickied FAQ post and use the sub search feature before posting! Many questions have been asked and answered before! Repetitive posts may be occasionally be removed at moderator discretion. Additionally, please keep content helpful and constructive. Misinformation is subject to removal. Repetitive rants & complaints may also be removed. If you are just here to complain, please do not participate as we want to keep the content of this sub helpful for those needing advice.

  4. 4.Weird messages from "Etsy support" / Scam Attempts

    Enforcement varies

If you got a weird message from "Etsy support", you are not alone. We are currently getting posts just about every hour asking about these messages. THEY ARE SCAM ATTEMPTS. Full details here, and please do not create new separate posts asking about them. https://www.reddit.com/r/EtsySellers/comments/15ng6bm/a_guide_to_scam_attempts_on_etsy/

  5. 5.No Trademark/Copyright Takedown Questions

    Enforcement varies

Asking why there is copyright infringement on Etsy is a super common question here. The answers are always the same, so here's a link to the answer: https://www.reddit.com/r/Etsy/comments/1cxylia/what_actually_is_etsys_ip_policy/ Note that we do not allow encouraging violating copyright here.

  6. 6.No Blog Posts, Topics Unrelated to Etsy, Promoting Other E-Commerce Sites, or Links with No Context

    Enforcement varies

Blog posts go in the share your stuff thread. No asking for free products in posts, comments, or PM. Posting your personal, non-Etsy shop or your shop in addition to Etsy is okay. Drive by spammers who post links to non-Etsy e-commerce venues will be banned. Links posted with no context or poorly explained context, or posts not directly relevant to Etsy, will be removed.

  7. 7.Remember the Golden Rule and Don't Be a Dick

    Enforcement varies

This subreddit is a place free of excessive cynicism, negativity and bitterness. Healthy criticism and skepticism is fine under certain circumstances, but toxic attitudes, rudeness, and nastiness are not welcome here. We realize Etsy can be frustrating to maneuver, but creating an excessively negative impression for customers harms all shops. Also: no naming shops or individuals suggesting they are scammers. This is not allowed per Reddit's anti-doxxing policies.

  8. 8.Please Post Surveys and Seller Tools in the Share Your Stuff Thread

    Enforcement varies

If you are doing research for school, a magazine, etc. or are studying buyers, sellers, marketing, etc, please feel free to post your survey ONLY in the Share Your Stuff thread. The same applies if you are looking for feedback on, testers for, or to promote a tool for sellers.

  9. 9.No Asking for General Newbie Advice/Asking What You Should Sell

    Enforcement varies

If you are just starting out, please read the Etsy Seller Handbook for advice and guidance on opening an Etsy shop. You may also utilize the search subreddit feature to see responses to this type of post in the past. Etsy is for handmade items, vintage, or craft supplies. If your item or idea is one of these things, great! Start a store. What determines success is how hard you're willing to work and learn about Etsy. Start your store then hit up the monthly critique thread for help.

  10. 10.Celebratory Posts Are Only for 100th/1,000th/10,000th/100,000th Sale

    Enforcement varies

We love to celebrate, so post to let us know about your 100th, 1,000th, 10,000th, and 100,000th sales *only*. Please follow the rules outlined in [this post](https://old.reddit.com/r/Etsy/comments/hu970w/survey_results/?) when you hit these milestones.

  11. 11.No Posts / Comments Asking How to Violate Etsy Policies, or Encouraging Policy Violations

    Enforcement varies

We are trying to make money by selling handmade or designed items on Etsy. If you're found to be reselling factory produced items you will be banned. Proof is necessary for reselling claims. Please don’t post on here asking how to skirt Etsy’s Prohibited Items or other policies, which includes reselling and copyright items. They are prohibited for a reason. Posts or comments which advocate for violating Etsy policy or the law will be removed and will result in a permanent ban.

  12. 12.No Asking How to Contact Previous Buyers or How to Turn Favorites Into Sales via Messaging

    Enforcement varies

Please do not ask how to export previous buyers' email addresses for the purposes of sending them a newsletter. Buyers must opt in to any newsletters. Signing them up on their behalf violates Etsy's TOS and GDPR. Don't ask how to turn favorites into sales. Contacting people who favorite your items is SPAM and against Etsy’s policies. Do not do this.

  13. 13.Account Suspension Posts

    Removed by moderators

There are many reasons why a shop or account may be suspended. Please thoroughly read and go through the checklist post here (https://www.reddit.com/r/Etsy/comments/uwrqck/account_suspension_help_checklist/ ) Your question is almost certainly covered here. If it is not, please reach out to us via modmail.

  14. 14.No AI written content

    Enforcement varies

We've been hit by waves of bot accounts posting duplicate AI written content, including posts and comments. This is not allowed here. Please write your own content if you want to contribute. Violating this rule will result in a warning. After that, it's a ban from the sub.

r/Etsy does not publish karma or account-age minimums in its rules. Subreddits often enforce unpublished filters on top of what they write down, which is why posts from new accounts can vanish without a message here.

Can you self-promote in r/Etsy?

Only in the designated thread. r/Etsy restricts promotion to weekly stickied promotional post; a standalone promo post gets removed. The sub's own wording: "All of this must go in the weekly stickied promotional post.". Post your promo there and keep regular posts value-first.

What gets removed in r/Etsy

  • Self-promo outside the designated thread

Promotion is only allowed in weekly stickied promotional post. A standalone promo post gets removed.

  • Low karma or a new account

r/Etsy publishes no karma or age minimum, but unpublished account filters are common at this size. New accounts should comment before posting.

  • AI-generated content

r/Etsy removes content it judges to be AI-generated. Obvious AI phrasing in a draft raises removal risk even when a human wrote most of it.

  • Reddit's sitewide spam filter

A separate layer before the subreddit ever sees your post. New accounts posting links, URL shorteners, and repeated domains are its favorite targets. Removals are instant and silent.

  • A shadowbanned account

If the account itself is shadowbanned, every post looks live to you and invisible to everyone else, in any subreddit.

r/Etsy posting questions

Can I post links in r/Etsy?

Yes. r/Etsy accepts link posts. The usual sitewide traps still apply: URL shorteners, affiliate parameters, and brand-new domains get filtered fast, and promotional links are judged against the sub's self-promo rules. One clean link to the original source is the safe pattern.

Does r/Etsy require karma to post?

r/Etsy does not publish a karma minimum. That does not mean there is none: many subreddits enforce unpublished karma and account-age filters that remove posts silently. If your account is new or has little karma, that is the first thing to rule out when a post disappears.

Is r/Etsy strict?

Moderate, by our estimate (25/100 on our strictness scale, from its measured removal rate, 14 rules, and its stated gates). About 4% of recent posts disappeared within a day in our sample. Strictness is about enforcement, not hostility: a strict sub is predictable if you follow its rules.

Does r/Etsy allow AI-generated content?

No. r/Etsy removes content it judges to be AI-generated. That includes obviously AI-phrased text even when a human edited it, so rewrite drafts in your own voice before posting here.

What is the best time to post in r/Etsy?

Based on our sample of recent and top posts, activity and scores peak around Tuesday 5pm UTC and Friday 7pm UTC. Treat this as a starting point, not a guarantee: a post that breaks a rule gets removed at any hour. The heatmap on this page converts these windows to your local time.

Why do posts get removed in r/Etsy?

The most common reasons are self-promotion violations, plus the layers every subreddit has: Reddit's sitewide spam filter, unpublished AutoMod rules, and account-level gates like karma and age. In our recent sample, roughly 4% of r/Etsy posts disappeared within about a day of going up. Many removals are silent, so checking your draft first beats finding out after.

Stop getting silently removed.
